Job Overview: The Senior Field Security Specialist (SFSS) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of UNDP personnel, eligible dependents, partners, and resources in Iraq. This position involves providing leadership support in security management and policy guidance to facilitate effective UNDP program delivery. The SFSS is responsible for integrating security considerations into all aspects of design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and implementation, ensuring compliance with UN security policies and procedures. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), national security counterparts, and other UN agencies, to maintain a robust security framework that supports UNDP's mission in a complex and often unstable environment. The SFSS will also supervise security staff and drivers, ensuring that security measures are effectively implemented and that personnel are adequately trained in security protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities: The SFSS will lead security management efforts, providing guidance and support to ensure the safety of UNDP operations. Key responsibilities include conducting security risk assessments, implementing risk mitigation measures, and ensuring compliance with UN security policies. The SFSS will work closely with UNDSS to develop and maintain country-specific security plans, conduct security training for UNDP personnel, and oversee the security compliance of UNDP premises. The role also involves producing security reports, coordinating with partner organizations, and maintaining a security network of international and national personnel. The SFSS will be responsible for managing the security team, ensuring that it is staffed with competent personnel, and overseeing the performance evaluation of security staff.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Management, or a related security field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) combined with two years of relevant work experience will be considered. Formal training in security risk management is required. The position demands a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience (or 9 years with a bachelor’s degree) in security or development, with a strong background in security management and risk assessment. Experience in a conflict or crisis environment, as well as familiarity with the UN Security Management System, is highly desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate proficiency in using office software and web-based management systems.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) with additional qualifying work experience will be considered. Formal multi-year education in security management, such as military or police command training, is also acceptable. Candidates must have formal training in security risk management to be eligible for this position.

Experience in security management, particularly in conflict or post-conflict environments, is essential. Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of Arabic is desirable, as it will facilitate communication and collaboration with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of security measures implemented in the region.
Additional Notes: The initial appointment is for a duration of 12 months, contingent upon successful completion of a probationary period.
