Job Overview:
The position involves recruiting a consultant tasked with capitalizing on agroecological best practices promoted by the PAMED (Programme d'Appui aux Mouvements Écologiques et de Développement) among peasant organizations, particularly focusing on women, youth, and internally displaced persons in seven municipalities where the program operates. The consultant will be expected to gather, analyze, and document successful agroecological practices, ensuring that these practices are effectively communicated and shared among stakeholders. This role is crucial for enhancing the knowledge base and improving agricultural practices within the targeted communities, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of existing agroecological practices within the targeted municipalities.
  • Engage with local farmers, particularly women and youth, to gather insights and experiences related to agroecological methods.
  • Document best practices and success stories that can serve as models for other communities.
  • Develop a detailed report outlining findings, recommendations, and strategies for scaling up successful practices.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to disseminate knowledge and encourage the adoption of best practices among local farmers.
  • Collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the practices identified.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to farmers in implementing agroecological practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented practices on local communities and ecosystems.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in agroecology, sustainable agriculture, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and document agricultural practices effectively.
  • Experience working with rural communities, particularly with women and youth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with the local agricultural context and challenges in Burkina Faso is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Studies, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in agroecology or sustainable agriculture will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field of agriculture, rural development, or a related area is required. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs in similar roles will be an advantage. Proven track record of successfully implementing projects focused on sustainable agricultural practices is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Burkina Faso. Proficiency in English is an asset and will be considered a plus, especially for engaging with international stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is for an individual contractor and is expected to be a short-term engagement. The consultant will work on a full-time basis during the contract period. The contract duration and specific terms will be discussed upon selection. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP standards.
