Job Overview: The Programme Intern (Sanitation Financing and Impact) will play a crucial role in supporting research and analysis on sanitation financing and markets in the focus countries of the Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF). The intern will be involved in data collection and analysis related to the impact of sanitation markets, with a particular focus on gender, climate, health, and economic growth. The role will also include contributing to the preparation of relevant documents and materials, assisting the Sanitation and Hygiene Markets Specialist and Finance Advisor, and gaining exposure to project management and development cooperation in the sanitation sector. This internship is designed to provide valuable insights into the operations of SHF and UNOPS, as well as the broader context of multilateral cooperation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for collecting data through desk research and attending meetings to support analyses related to sanitation financing and markets for SHF’s focus countries. They will contribute to data collection and analyses concerning the impact of sanitation markets, focusing on gender, climate, health, and economic growth. The intern will assist in preparing documents using Google Slides, Google Docs, and Google Sheets related to future planning of SHF’s projects and strategy. They will also contribute to stakeholder mapping and maintain relevant tracker spreadsheets. Additionally, the intern will support the preparation for sector conferences and events by conducting research related to stakeholder meetings and event sessions. General assistance to the technical team on various projects and activities, including administrative support, scheduling meetings, and taking meeting minutes, will also be part of the responsibilities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a university program such as a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. (or equivalent), or have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the application date. While professional working experience is not required for this internship, previous working experience, including volunteering or extracurricular involvement, will be considered a strong asset. Desirable qualifications include previous experience in impact investing, international development, the financial industry, or consulting, as well as experience in industry research, market analysis, or impact analysis. Strong proficiency in visual presentation tools (e.g., Google Slides, PowerPoint) and spreadsheet software (Google Sheets, Excel) will also be considered an asset.
Educational Background: All applicants must be currently enrolled in a university program or have graduated within the last three years. The educational background should ideally be related to fields such as international development, public health, environmental studies, or finance, which would provide a solid foundation for understanding sanitation financing and market dynamics.
Experience: While no professional working experience is required, any previous experience, including internships, volunteering, or extracurricular activities, will be viewed favorably. Additional Notes: The internship contract is for a duration of 12 months and is classified at the intern level. It is important to note that this internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship. Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions. Additionally, UNOPS may provide a one-time travel lump sum based on defined factors. Interns are responsible for making their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, and necessary visa arrangements.
