Job Overview: The position of Consultor/a Estrategias Productivas para Áreas Naturales Protegidas involves working on projects aimed at enhancing the management and resilience of Protected Natural Areas (ANP) in Mexico. The consultant will be responsible for designing and implementing a model that integrates actions to strengthen environmental and socio-economic resilience within these areas. This role is crucial as it includes reviewing and improving the Mexican Forest Protocol 3.0 of the Climate Action Reserve to incorporate carbon capture projects in priority territories. The consultant will work closely with local communities and landowners to ensure that these projects not only sequester carbon but also conserve ecosystems and provide economic benefits. The position requires a hybrid work model, with the consultant expected to be available for both in-person and virtual meetings as needed to achieve the consultancy's objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have several key responsibilities, including:
Designing a comprehensive model for integrating productive strategies in Protected Natural Areas.
Implementing carbon capture projects that align with the objectives of the SINERGIA+ project.
Conducting a thorough review of the Mexican Forest Protocol 3.0 and proposing necessary improvements.
Collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of projects.
Traveling across Mexican territories as required by the project to gather data and engage with local populations.
Reporting on progress and outcomes to the Project Coordinator and other stakeholders.
Ensuring that all deliverables meet the quality standards set by UNDP and are completed within the established timeline.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, sustainable development, or a related field. They should have proven experience in project management, particularly in the context of environmental conservation and community engagement. Familiarity with carbon capture methodologies and protocols is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resource management, sustainable development, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset for the position.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in environmental consultancy, project management, or related fields. Experience working with Protected Natural Areas and knowledge of carbon capture projects will be highly advantageous. Previous work with international organizations or NGOs is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the consultancy will involve extensive communication with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is also required, as it will be necessary for reporting and collaboration with international teams. Knowledge of indigenous languages spoken in the project areas would be considered a plus.
