Job Overview:
The Fishery Officer (Compliance Monitoring and Assessment) plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of GFCM policies by Contracting Parties (CPCs). This position involves ensuring compliance with fisheries management and aquaculture development measures, which are essential for sustainable practices in the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. The officer will be responsible for monitoring and assessing compliance with regulations, contributing to the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and enhancing fisheries monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS). The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to analyze complex data to support decision-making processes. The officer will also supervise a team dedicated to compliance monitoring and assessment, ensuring that GFCM's objectives are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Fishery Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including researching and analyzing fisheries and aquaculture data to support program delivery. This includes producing technical reports, statistics, and policy documents. The officer will provide technical and analytical services for various projects and initiatives, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of capacity development activities within member countries. Specific functions include expert support on compliance assessment, updating fishing fleet data, liaising with CPCs and other organizations, and contributing to the technical work of the Compliance Committee. The officer will also participate in multidisciplinary teams, promote best practices, and support resource mobilization activities in line with FAO's strategic framework.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fishery science, marine affairs, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law related to fishery, development economics, sustainable agriculture, or a related field. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in fisheries is required, with a strong focus on compliance assessment and the fight against IUU fishing. Candidates should have experience in implementing, monitoring, and assessing management measures adopted by various organizations, as well as providing technical support on regulatory and data submission issues. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders are essential.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree is mandatory for this position, specifically in fields related to fisheries, marine affairs, or sustainable agriculture. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of fisheries management and compliance assessment in the context of international regulations and practices.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in the fisheries sector, particularly in roles that involve compliance assessment and the implementation of management measures.
