Job Overview: The position of Individual Consultant for Gender Mainstreaming in Business Statistics involves supporting the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in Moldova to integrate gender considerations into business statistics. The consultant will play a crucial role in mapping existing statistical data related to women entrepreneurship, operationalizing definitions of women-owned and women-led businesses, and identifying key indicators to measure business demographics by sex. This role is essential for addressing the challenges faced by women and girls in Moldova, particularly in terms of economic empowerment and access to resources. The consultant will work closely with UN Women and NBS to ensure that gender-sensitive data is collected and analyzed, contributing to informed decision-making and policy recommendations that promote women's economic empowerment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including assessing existing business and trade statistics, facilitating dialogues between data producers and users to identify needs regarding women's entrepreneurship data, and providing technical support for the operationalization of statistical definitions related to women-owned and women-led businesses. Additionally, the consultant will develop recommendations for core indicators, lead the documentation of data selection and analysis, and prepare reports on business demography and gender mainstreaming in business statistics. The consultant will also analyze qualitative data to assess entrepreneurial attitudes and barriers from a gender perspective, and prepare presentations and materials for national workshops on women's entrepreneurship data.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in Economics, Statistics, Ergonomics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The position requires a minimum of two years of proven experience in designing and conducting surveys related to business and women's entrepreneurship, as well as experience in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data. Familiarity with official statistics, particularly in business statistics, is essential, and experience working with international organizations, especially UN agencies, is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Economics, Statistics, or Ergonomics is required for this position. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of data analysis and gender issues in business.
Experience: The consultant should have at least two years of experience in designing and conducting surveys related to business and women's entrepreneurship. Additionally, experience in analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data is required, with a focus on statistical methods and thematic analysis. Previous work with official statistics, particularly in the context of business statistics, is essential, and experience with international organizations, particularly UN agencies, is advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in both verbal and written Romanian and English is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of Russian is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration with various stakeholders in Moldova.
Additional Notes: The assignment is expected to last for a period of nine months, starting in March 2025 and concluding in November 2025, with the possibility of extension based on performance and the needs of national counterparts. The consultant will not be required to travel, but if unforeseen travel is necessary, UN Women will coordinate transportation. Payments will be made upon certification by UN Women that the deliverables have been satisfactorily completed. The consultant's performance will be evaluated based on criteria such as timeliness, responsibility, initiative, communication, accuracy, and quality of deliverables.
