Job Overview: The Driver/Admin Assistant position at UN Women in Mekelle, Tigray, is crucial for providing reliable driving services and basic administrative support to the UN Women Office. The incumbent will be responsible for driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and the delivery and collection of mail and documents. Additionally, the role includes meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting with visa and customs formalities when required. The Driver/Admin Assistant will also ensure the proper maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including minor repairs and timely servicing, while maintaining accurate vehicle logs and preparing maintenance reports. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure that all necessary documents and supplies are available for the vehicle and office operations, contributing to the overall efficiency of the UN Women Office in Mekelle.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver/Admin Assistant will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
Providing reliable and secure driving services for authorized personnel and transporting documents and items as needed.
Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting with visa and customs arrangements.
Maintaining daily vehicle logs and ensuring cost-effective use of the vehicle.
Performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including minor repairs and coordinating major repairs.
Ensuring the availability of all required documents and supplies for the vehicle, including insurance and maintenance records.
Coordinating and preparing schedules for vehicle insurance and servicing.
Reviewing fuel usage and reconciling fuel coupons against recorded usage.
Providing general administrative and logistic support, including maintaining office space and ensuring cleanliness.
Ensuring the safe custody of office keys and availability of cleaning materials. 1
Performing other duties as required to support the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Completion of secondary education is mandatory.
A valid driver’s license is essential.
Excellent driving skills and a good knowledge of driving rules and regulations are required.
Defensive driving skills and the ability to perform minor vehicle repairs are necessary.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records are important for this role.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary education, which is a prerequisite for this position. This educational background ensures that the individual possesses the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties effectively.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of work experience as a driver, demonstrating a safe driving record and familiarity with driving rules and regulations. Languages: Fluency in English and Tigrigna is required for this position, as these languages are essential for communication within the office and with local stakeholders.
