Job Overview: The Geoprocessing Specialist will play a crucial role in the Floresta+ Amazônia project, which supports the protection and recovery of forests while contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This position focuses on the strategy of Payments for Environmental Services, recognizing the work of small producers, indigenous peoples, and traditional communities in the Amazon region. The specialist will utilize geospatial analysis to enhance the understanding of deforestation patterns and environmental changes, providing technical support to the project coordination unit. The role requires expertise in geoprocessing and remote sensing to analyze spatial data related to land use and environmental management, ultimately contributing to sustainable development in the Amazon.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Geoprocessing Specialist will be responsible for conducting specialized technical services in territorial and environmental analyses using geoprocessing and remote sensing techniques. Key duties include:
Utilizing geoprocessing tools to perform spatial analyses considering land and environmental data relevant to the Department of Territorial Environmental Management.
Working with satellite imagery, drones, and other remote sources to gather information about land surface, including image interpretation and land cover classification.
Producing digital thematic maps using proprietary (ArcGIS) or open-source (QGIS) geoprocessing software to present territorial and environmental analyses.
Applying spatial analysis techniques to monitor land structure and dynamics, identifying critical areas and temporal trends.
Structuring and systematizing results from spatial analyses using Microsoft Office and Power BI.
Supporting the technical team in preparing documents related to geospatial analysis and geoprocessing tools, including terms of reference and technical specifications.
Advising on GEO-related matters and ensuring compliance between requests and deliverables.
Performing other functions as necessary for the effective operation of the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree (Master's or equivalent) in Geography, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Agronomy, Environmental Management, Cartographic Engineering, or related fields. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields may be considered if they have at least two years of experience in spatial analysis and geoprocessing tools. The role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in geoprocessing software, and the ability to work with complex datasets.
Educational Background: A Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is required. Candidates without a Master's degree must have a Bachelor's degree in a concentration that involves spatial analysis and geoprocessing techniques, along with two years of relevant experience. The educational background should emphasize environmental studies, geography, or related disciplines that provide a solid foundation for the technical requirements of the position.
Experience: Candidates with a Master's degree do not need prior professional experience.
