Job Overview: The Individual Contractor will play a crucial role in supporting the Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) Programme of Work. This position involves conducting research, developing content, and providing logistical support to ensure the effective implementation of CEPA activities. The contractor will coordinate with both internal and external partners to facilitate these initiatives, ensuring that high-quality communication products are disseminated across various platforms, including social media. A significant aspect of this role includes supporting the International Day for Biological Diversity through outreach and communication strategies that align with the Convention's objectives. The contractor will work under the supervision of the Public Information Officer and will be expected to contribute to initiatives that align with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
Duties and Responsibilities: The Individual Contractor will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: assisting in the drafting and development of information materials that support CEPA activities, particularly those related to the GBF; planning and executing outreach campaigns for the International Day for Biological Diversity; preparing information materials for the Global Plan of Action on Education and Biodiversity; drafting official correspondence such as letters, emails, notifications, meeting minutes, and analytical reports; creating engaging social media content that aligns with the overall communication strategy; and performing other relevant duties as required. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all communication efforts are timely and effective, contributing to the overall success of the CEPA Programme.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Courses in social sciences and political sciences are desirable. A minimum of one year of working experience in organizing outreach campaigns, events, or international meetings is required. Knowledge of the work of the Convention and its Protocols is desirable, as is proficiency in using new technologies, web-based platforms, and social media networks. Excellent computer skills are essential, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator (or equivalent), and familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Strong writing and editing skills in English, along with well-developed editorial judgment, are also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. While not mandatory, courses in social sciences and political sciences are considered advantageous and may enhance the candidate's understanding of the role and its responsibilities.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of one year of relevant working experience, particularly in organizing outreach campaigns, events, or international meetings. Familiarity with the work of the Convention and its Protocols is desirable, as is experience in using new technologies and social media platforms to engage audiences effectively.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while knowledge is defined as a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.
