Job Overview:
The ICT Helpdesk Intern position at UNOPS is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in the field of information and communication technology (ICT). The intern will work under the direct supervision of the ICT Helpdesk Coordinator and will be involved in various activities aimed at enhancing the capacity of the ICT Helpdesk. This role is crucial for ensuring that all HQ-based employees and remote staff receive the necessary support for their ICT needs. Interns will be treated as equal members of the team and will have the opportunity to engage in both support work and independent assignments, allowing them to take on substantial responsibilities. The intern will also participate in training sessions and contribute to knowledge sharing within the organization, ensuring that user downtime is minimized and that ICT services are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting ICT client services and administration to guarantee quality, efficiency, and availability. This involves providing first-line technical support via telephone, email, and in person, logging support calls, and following up with customers as needed. The intern will assist users with equipment and standard IT applications, maintain an inventory of ICT hardware and software, and ensure the effective functioning of all UNOPS hardware and software.
  • Engaging in knowledge building and sharing by collecting feedback and ideas about processes and best practices, and supporting training sessions for operations/projects staff in ICT services.
  • Ensuring the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of information by maintaining confidentiality and availability, performing periodic recovery exercises, and ensuring that technical documentation is up-to-date.
  • Providing implementation support for ICT projects from HQ and basic ICT support for HQ supervised staff, including user training and promoting effective adoption of ICT tools.
  • Participating in training courses available through the UNOPS Learning Zone, which covers various topics including Programme Management and Gender Mainstreaming.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the ICT Helpdesk Intern position should possess a minimum first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) or be enrolled in a postgraduate program, with a focus on computer sciences, communications, or customer service. Prior experience in troubleshooting and customer service is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate excellent command of written and spoken English, with proficiency in additional UN languages considered an asset. Strong computer literacy, particularly in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, is essential, along with experience in AD user management being a plus. While no prior work experience is required, any experience in customer service, IT problem-solving, project management, or administration will be advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have completed a minimum first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) or be currently enrolled in a postgraduate program. The area of study should preferably relate to computer sciences, communications, or customer service. Recent graduates within three years prior to the start date of the internship are also eligible to apply.

Experience:
While no prior work experience is mandatory for this internship, candidates with some experience in customer service, IT problem-solving, project management, administration, or related fields will be viewed favorably. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain practical experience in the ICT sector.

Languages:
The position requires an excellent command of written and spoken English. Proficiency in any other UN language would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for this role.

Additional Notes:
This internship is classified as a 6-month contract and is not designed to lead to a permanent staff position with UNOPS. Interns should not expect employment at the end of the internship. However, they may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions. Additionally, UNOPS may offer a one-time travel lump sum of 500 USD to assist with travel expenses.
