Job Overview:
The Air Operations Assistant plays a crucial role in the UNVMC's Aviation Unit, which is responsible for providing air transportation services to support the mission's mandate. This position involves managing aviation operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and coordinating flight activities across various locations in Colombia. The Air Operations Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Chief/Air Operations Officer and will be involved in pre-planning flight activities, monitoring daily flights, and coordinating with local authorities and other units. The role requires a proactive approach to managing air operations, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely and efficiently. The assistant will also be responsible for compiling and communicating Air Tasking Orders, monitoring flight safety, and maintaining databases related to crew and flight operations. This position is essential for the successful execution of the mission's air operations and requires a strong commitment to operational safety and effective communication with various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Air Operations Assistant include:
  • Pre-planning flight activities within the state and submitting them for consolidation and approval.
  • Performing duties as a Flight Monitor on air missions as required and authorized.
  • Compiling daily projected Air Tasking Orders (ATO's) and communicating them to relevant elements.
  • Monitoring daily flights and reporting take-offs and landings to the Flight Following Unit.
  • Coordinating with local administration and COLCAA on all air activities.
  • Posting notices to airmen and providing copies to crew members.
  • Liaising with Regional Administrative Officers on state requirements for air support.
  • Securing mine and threat assessment reports and ensuring flight safety assurances.
  • Disseminating weather reports to other regions/states. 1
  • Planning and coordinating ramp operations, including fueling, parking, and towing. 1
  • Coordinating integrated search and rescue operations for UN air assets. 1
  • Reporting all flight amendments, changes, and deviations to the Chief Air Operations and Flight Following Unit. 1
  • Filing all observed safety hazards and maintaining a database for crew in the region. 1
  • Submitting daily fuel stock status to the Mission Air Operations Center. 1
  • Preparing daily situation reports and sharing them with the MAOC after flight operations. 1
  • Processing the Daily Flight Schedule in the Aviation Information Management Suite and ensuring data authenticity with Flight Following.

Required Qualifications:
