Job Overview:
The Information Officer will play a crucial role in managing and executing communications strategies for the UN's Creative Community Outreach Initiative, the Messenger of Peace Programme, and the Football for the Goals initiative. This position requires a deep understanding of public information and communication strategies, particularly in relation to the entertainment and sports sectors. The incumbent will lead the development and implementation of large-scale communications campaigns, working closely with various stakeholders, including film, television, and music entities. The role involves producing content, organizing events, and coordinating outreach efforts to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other UN initiatives. The Information Officer will also be responsible for building strategic partnerships with key constituencies in the creative community, advising senior officials on public affairs issues, and evaluating the impact of communications activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will take the lead in strategy, planning, development, and implementation of complex communications campaigns. This includes producing content and digital assets, organizing events, and coordinating outreach. The Information Officer will provide expert advice to managers and public information staff, develop partnerships with the creative community, and identify information opportunities for UN Messengers of Peace. Responsibilities also include preparing diverse communication products, drafting complex materials for UN publications, evaluating communications activities, representing the UN in meetings, and overseeing the maintenance of information materials. The role requires coordination of a team of public information staff and mentoring junior officers, as well as data analysis to support decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in public information, journalism, or international relations, with a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in these fields. Extensive experience in developing partnerships with the global TV and film industry, as well as the sports sector, is essential. The ability to secure influencers for advocacy and generate communications impact reports is also required. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record in organizing large-scale public events and managing complex communications initiatives.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or public administration is required. Candidates should have extensive experience in developing and implementing partnerships within the global entertainment and sports industries, as well as experience in securing high-profile influencers for advocacy purposes. Experience in generating communications impact reports and organizing large-scale public events is desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, either English or French, is required, with knowledge of the other being desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an advantage.
