This service acts as a center of expertise on justice, corrections, and related rule of law areas within the United Nations Secretariat. The intern will be involved in strategic communication and public outreach related to rule of law and justice issues in peacekeeping contexts. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in a professional environment, allowing the intern to contribute to the development of communications and multimedia products, as well as engage in research and content creation for various platforms. The intern will work closely with the JCS team to enhance awareness and understanding of justice and corrections issues, while also gaining valuable insights into the workings of the United Nations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting the Justice and Corrections Service with strategic communication and public outreach; developing and designing communications and multimedia products for web and social media; drafting and editing publications such as fact sheets and newsletters; creating data visualizations and interactive content; researching and compiling information for social media content; monitoring and analyzing social media statistics and web analytics; and performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. The intern will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful projects that contribute to the overall mission of the JCS and the United Nations.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
Educational Background: Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship, with a focus on areas related to justice, corrections, or public communication. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree program must be provided during the application process.
Experience: While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This may include projects, research, or volunteer work related to justice, corrections, or communications.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
