Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) of the United Nations is designed to provide students with practical experience in the field of justice and corrections. The intern will engage in substantive work that supports the mission of the JCS, which focuses on enhancing justice and corrections systems in peace operations. The internship is structured to be full-time, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, although there is flexibility to adjust to part-time or remote work based on the intern's needs. The intern will be involved in various projects, research, and administrative tasks that contribute to the development and implementation of justice initiatives within the UN framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting with the implementation of justice and corrections projects, conducting research and analysis, drafting case studies and background papers, and providing administrative support for meetings with internal and external partners. The intern will also assist in the coordination of meetings, develop agendas and briefing papers, and support policy and guidance development efforts by researching legal and judicial reform issues. Additionally, the intern will conduct research on current developments related to justice and corrections, support desk officers in peace operations, accompany JCS staff to meetings, take notes, write summaries, and assist in preparing public information materials and presentations for senior staff members. The intern may also be tasked with other functions as requested by their supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program. Alternatively, applicants who have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program are also eligible. Proof of enrollment or completion will be required during the application process.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This may include research projects, coursework in law, international relations, or related fields that demonstrate a foundational understanding of justice and corrections.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship.
