Job Overview: The Logistics Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Integrated Warehouse (IW) and will be responsible for a variety of logistics functions. This includes liaising with different units to monitor inbound shipments, advising on resource requirements, and assisting in tracking contracts and purchase orders. The officer will also coordinate with transport units to ensure timely delivery of cargo, analyze resource mobilization needs, and maintain accurate inventory records. The role requires a proactive approach to managing supply chain operations and ensuring accountability in asset control procedures. The Logistics Officer will also be involved in capacity development for national staff and partners, emphasizing the importance of training and mentorship in logistics operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Logistics Officer's duties include monitoring inbound shipments and advising on resource needs, tracking contracts and purchase orders, coordinating with transport units for cargo movements, analyzing resource requirements, preparing for incoming cargo, submitting regular supply chain reports, maintaining transaction history files, conducting inventory performance analyses, managing asset control procedures, verifying data accuracy in the asset control system, monitoring inventory management systems, identifying discrepancies in inventory, and providing training and support to national staff and partners. The officer will also perform any other related tasks as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong client orientation, communication skills, creativity, ethics, integrity, planning and organizing abilities, professionalism, respect for diversity, and teamwork skills. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively in challenging environments.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in logistics or supply chain management would be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably in a humanitarian or international development context. Experience working in challenging environments, particularly in developing countries, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary working language in the DRC. Knowledge of additional languages such as Lingala, Kikongo, Tshiluba, or Swahili would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a non-family assignment in Bunia, DRC. Living conditions can be challenging, with basic amenities available in remote duty stations. Candidates should be prepared for difficult living conditions and potential security risks. The role may involve working under UN Security Phase III, which indicates a relocation phase for internationally-recruited staff. Vaccinations are mandatory for personnel entering the DRC, and malaria prophylaxis is recommended. The unit of currency is the Congolese Franc, with the US dollar also being widely accepted.
