Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNFPA is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services to the Country Office, particularly in support of the 2021 Population and Housing Census and various programs and projects. The role requires close collaboration with the Population & Development Team and involves reporting to the designated Programme Head or International Operations Manager through the Logistics and Transport Assistant. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing reliable and safe driving services by transporting UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors; delivering and collecting mail and documentation; and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, managing visa and customs formalities as required.
  • Staying informed about traffic, road conditions, and security issues to ensure safe and timely arrivals for meetings.
  • Managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, including conducting minor repairs, cleaning, and arranging for major repairs and services to keep the vehicle in good running condition. This includes maintaining daily vehicle logs and assisting in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports.
  • Keeping track of insurance and tax formalities for the vehicle.
  • Acting as a translator in the local language for official passengers when necessary.
  • Guiding and coaching junior drivers as appropriate.
  • Assisting Country Office staff with general administrative duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed Secondary Level Education. Additionally, they should possess three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills is essential. Candidates should also have skills in minor vehicle repairs and demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The ability to organize work effectively and meet planned deadlines under pressure is also required. A valid driver's license is mandatory.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is the completion of Secondary Level Education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and tasks associated with the role of a driver in an international organization.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver, specifically within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system.
