Job Overview: The Consultant for the Market-Based Coping and Recovery Program will play a crucial role in supporting the Mercy Corps team in Sudan as they navigate the complexities of the ongoing crisis. This position involves providing technical guidance and support in the design and implementation of agriculture input delivery methodologies, as well as enhancing the SME and consumer cooperatives component. The consultant will work closely with program leadership and technical teams to identify bottlenecks and ensure timely delivery of program outputs. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to program learning through assessments and data-driven decision-making, ensuring that the programs remain aligned with their objectives and effectively address the needs of the target populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Supporting the completion of SOMOUD I and II deliverables by assisting teams in designing and implementing agriculture input delivery methodologies.
Strengthening the SME and consumer cooperatives component through technical guidance and reviewing existing models.
Collaborating with program leadership to identify and address bottlenecks in program delivery.
Supporting the capacity building of staff at both technical and managerial levels.
Developing and delivering training sessions and resources to enhance staff understanding of MSD principles.
Contributing to program assessments and capturing information for future opportunities.
Documenting lessons learned and presenting assessment results to stakeholders.
Facilitating program consistency and coordination through regular calls with program staff and managers.
Advising on program structures and management lines to ensure deliverables are met.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in MSD/Markets, with previous experience in Sudan's MSD context being highly preferred. Familiarity with Mercy Corps' MSD program design and implementation is essential, along with country leadership experience in roles such as DOPC or D/COP. The consultant should demonstrate a strong understanding of market systems and the ability to navigate complex operational environments.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, ideally in fields related to economics, international development, or a similar discipline that supports the understanding of market systems and program implementation.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in market systems development and implementation, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in Sudan or similar contexts. Experience in leading teams and managing programs effectively is crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable to facilitate communication with local stakeholders and program participants.
Additional Notes: The consultant role is expected to be a short-term engagement, with a total of 20 days of work anticipated across various program deliverables, quality assurance, learning, and coordination efforts. The position may involve both remote and in-country work, depending on the evolving security situation and operational needs.
