Job Overview:
The National Solar Energy Expert will play a crucial role in supporting ESCWA's project aimed at improving the mapping and monitoring of solar energy access in the Arab region. This position involves conducting a national consultation workshop to assess data availability and quality regarding solar energy access in Jordan, Lebanon, and Tunisia. The expert will also be responsible for drafting a policy assessment report that identifies gaps and opportunities in renewable energy policies, ensuring alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) and climate commitments. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, research skills, and the ability to engage with various stakeholders in the energy sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Solar Energy Expert will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the organization of a national consultation workshop by identifying potential stakeholders, contributing to the workshop agenda, and preparing the workshop report.
  • Preparing a national policy assessment report by conducting a desk review of national policy frameworks, collecting and analyzing data on energy balance and electricity mix, and conducting interviews with stakeholders.
  • Drafting and finalizing reports that include key findings, recommendations, and success stories related to renewable energy policies.
  • Collaborating with ESCWA team members and incorporating feedback into the final reports and presentations.
  • Ensuring that all outputs are delivered in English and meet the required standards of quality and comprehensiveness.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in renewable energy, geographic information systems (GIS), or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of relevant technical and policy work experience in the fields of renewable energy and GIS in Jordan and/or the Arab region is required. Knowledge of GIS tools, satellite imagery, artificial intelligence, and remote sensing is desirable, along with proficiency in ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of the renewable energy landscape in the region and possess the ability to analyze and interpret complex data.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or higher in renewable energy, geographic information systems (GIS), or a related field is mandatory for this position. Candidates are required to submit a copy of their educational qualifications as part of the application process. Incomplete applications will not be considered, emphasizing the importance of meeting the educational requirements.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of technical and policy work experience in renewable energy and GIS, specifically within the context of Jordan and/or the Arab region. Languages:

Candidates should be able to effectively communicate and produce reports in both English and Arabic.
