Job Overview:
The Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) and Repatriation (DDRR) Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Central African Republic (CAR) authorities in implementing inclusive and gender-sensitive DDR and repatriation programs for members of armed groups. This position involves conducting research and analysis on various aspects of DDR work, including risk assessments and political factors affecting operations. The officer will be responsible for developing and maintaining mechanisms for tracking and evaluating DDR-related programs, coordinating with local partners and communities, and mobilizing resources for strategic partnerships. The role requires participation in field missions, drafting reports, and ensuring that DDR activities are well integrated with other mission activities. The officer will also provide technical assistance to the CAR authorities and support the development of training programs for institutional capacity building. This position is vital for ensuring the successful reintegration of eligible members of armed groups into peaceful civilian life and contributing to sustainable socioeconomic reintegration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The DDRR Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: organizing and conducting research and analysis on DDR work; supporting the development of tracking and evaluation systems for DDR programs; coordinating with local partners and communities to facilitate their participation in DDR activities; mobilizing resources and developing strategic partnerships; drafting mission reports and preparing briefings for senior leadership; ensuring integration of DDR activities with other mission efforts; preparing written outputs such as background papers and reports; providing support to consultative meetings; and performing any other assigned duties. The officer will also coordinate support from multilateral and bilateral partners to assist CAR authorities in reintegrating members of armed groups into civilian life.

Required Qualifications:

They should possess strong planning and organizational skills, be able to manage a large volume of work efficiently, and establish priorities. Effective teamwork and respect for diversity are essential, as the officer will work in a multicultural environment. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required, along with the ability to empathize with diverse stakeholders. Flexibility and adaptability are crucial, as the officer may need to operate independently in challenging conditions. A genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement and the UN core values is also necessary.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the DDRR Officer position typically includes a university degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, and additional training or certifications in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or related areas would be advantageous. A minimum of three years of experience in a similar role is typically expected, with a preference for candidates who have worked in challenging environments or conflict-affected regions. Experience in coordinating with local partners, conducting research and analysis, and managing projects will be highly valued.

The living conditions in Bangui are difficult, with limited medical infrastructure, high costs of living, and security concerns. UN personnel are advised to comply with security instructions and may experience restrictions on movement. The average monthly cost for accommodation varies significantly, and sharing accommodations is recommended to manage expenses.
