Job Overview: The National Solar Energy Expert will play a crucial role in supporting ESCWA's project aimed at improving the mapping and monitoring of solar energy access in Lebanon and other Arab countries. This position involves working closely with government officials and policymakers to enhance their understanding of solar energy access and its implications for climate policy and socio-economic resilience. The expert will be responsible for organizing a national consultation workshop, conducting research, and drafting a comprehensive policy assessment report that evaluates the current policy landscape regarding renewable energy and solar energy in Lebanon, Jordan, and Tunisia. The role requires a deep understanding of the energy sector, data collection processes, and the ability to identify capacity gaps that need to be addressed to align with Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) and climate commitments.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Solar Energy Expert will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the organization of a national consultation workshop by identifying potential stakeholders, contributing to the workshop agenda, and preparing the workshop report.
Preparing a national policy assessment report that includes conducting a desk review of national policy frameworks, collecting and analyzing data on energy balance and electricity mix, and conducting interviews with stakeholders.
Drafting and finalizing reports that include key findings, recommendations, and success stories related to renewable energy policies.
Collaborating with ESCWA team members and other consultants to ensure the quality and relevance of the reports produced.
Preparing presentations to communicate the findings and recommendations effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in renewable energy, geographic information systems (GIS), or a related field. Additionally, at least 10 years of relevant technical and policy work experience in Lebanon and/or the Arab region is required. Knowledge of GIS tools, satellite imagery, artificial intelligence, and remote sensing is desirable, along with proficiency in ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of renewable energy policies and their implications for socio-economic development.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or higher in renewable energy and/or geographic information systems (GIS) is mandatory for this position. Candidates are required to submit a copy of their educational degree as part of the application process. Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of technical and policy work experience specifically in the fields of renewable energy and GIS.
