Job Overview:
The position of Praktikant*in in Sustainable Mobility in International Cooperation focuses on addressing the challenges faced by megacities and rural areas in terms of transportation. The intern will be involved in projects that aim to achieve sustainable development and climate protection goals in the transportation sector. This includes working on topics such as sustainable urban mobility, digitalization in transport, new mobility concepts, and sustainable infrastructure. The intern will support the development, planning, and management of integrated transport projects in partner countries, as well as contribute to knowledge management for the global transport community. The role requires active participation in webinars, workshops, and the creation of project proposals, while also enhancing digital service offerings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will assist in various aspects of international cooperation in transportation, including:
  • Supporting technical, methodological, and process consulting for projects and collaboration with key GIZ initiatives.
  • Contributing to community-based knowledge management in transportation.
  • Conducting literature and internet research on transportation and mobility topics.
  • Assisting with current key themes such as Vision100, sustainable infrastructure, the BMZ infrastructure initiative, trade and logistics, urban development, energy security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, Ukraine and logistics, electromobility, digitalization in transport, and financing.
  • Preparing and following up on webinars, workshops, and working sessions.
  • Supporting the creation of project drafts and evaluations, as well as writing and editing documents for internal and external communication.
  • Enhancing digital service offerings and participating in relevant working groups.
  • Engaging in conceptual interface work with sectors such as energy, climate, economy, water, and urban development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should have a background in transportation, environmental, engineering, or economic sciences, urban/spatial planning, or a related field. Knowledge of topics related to passenger and freight transport, relevant environmental and climate policy issues, and digitalization in transport is advantageous. A strong interest in development policy issues and international transport policy is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to engage with GIZ's organizational and process structures. Fluency in German and English, both written and spoken, is required, along with good written communication skills and proficiency in common office applications. A creative, team-oriented work style and a high degree of initiative are also important.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in a degree program related to transportation, environmental studies, engineering, economics, urban planning, or a comparable field. The internship is only available to those who are currently enrolled, participating in a training program that requires an internship, or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in transportation, environmental policy, or international cooperation will be beneficial. The candidate should demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and contributing to the projects undertaken by GIZ.

Languages:
Fluent proficiency in both German and English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication in both languages is crucial for the role. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

The internship is available for a duration from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025, and can be either full-time or part-time. The monthly stipend for interns is €2,205.04 (gross).
