Duties and Responsibilities: The Reviser will be responsible for the following duties: revising translations covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations; translating texts on a self-revising basis; utilizing CAT tools and contributing to their implementation; developing new terminology; conducting linguistic research; providing input to multilingual terminology databases; counseling and assisting translators; participating in setting terminology standards; maintaining speed and volume output; meeting established deadlines; supervising small groups of translators; acting as Programming Officer as required; collecting and analyzing data to identify trends; and performing other related duties as required. This comprehensive set of responsibilities ensures that the Reviser contributes significantly to the overall effectiveness of the Arabic Translation Section.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Additionally, they must have passed the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Arabic Translators or a relevant examination for Arabic Translators held before 201
The position requires a perfect command of Arabic as the main language, excellent knowledge of English, and proficiency in one other UN official language. Candidates should demonstrate strong writing skills, accuracy, consistency, and a good grasp of the subject matter, as well as the ability to work under stress and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Educational Background: A first-level degree from a recognized university or institution is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for the complex tasks involved in translation and revision within the United Nations framework.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in translation, editing, self-revision, or related fields. Out of this experience, three years should be in a multilingual setting, preferably within the United Nations Common System or a similar international organization.
