Job Overview:
The Social Media Intern position is designed to support the Chief of the Partnerships Branch (PB) in Geneva, focusing on enhancing the visibility and digital communications of the branch. The intern will engage in strategic communications, social media management, and outreach efforts, contributing to the development and implementation of the Chief's social media strategy across various platforms. This role is crucial for promoting flagship campaigns, high-level events, and partnership initiatives, while also creating engaging content that aligns with the UN's messaging priorities. The intern will have the opportunity to work on multimedia content creation, including graphics and videos, and will be involved in monitoring and analyzing social media performance to improve engagement and outreach effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Supporting the planning, development, and implementation of the Chief's social media strategy, particularly on platforms like LinkedIn.
  • Drafting engaging social media content, captions, articles, and other communications products that align with OCHA's messaging.
  • Developing content calendars and proposing creative ideas to enhance visibility and audience engagement.
  • Promoting flagship campaigns and high-level events through digital channels.
  • Researching and drafting human-interest stories for publication on communications platforms.
  • Designing visually engaging graphics and digital assets for various outreach materials.
  • Assisting in the production of multimedia content, including videos and photography during events.
  • Monitoring the Chief's digital presence and analyzing social media performance to provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Supporting day-to-day Front Office activities, including preparing briefing materials and coordinating meetings. 1
  • Conducting background research to support communications products and outreach activities.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks are desirable. Previous experience in social media and in a private/public sector setting is also desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential, with a demonstrated ability in drafting social media texts and articles.

Educational Background:
The position requires applicants to be either enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program. A field of study closely related to the internship is required, ensuring that candidates have the relevant academic background to support their work in social media and communications.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework related to social media, communications, or public relations. Previous internships or volunteer work in similar fields will be considered an asset, particularly if they demonstrate the ability to manage social media platforms effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken, written, read, and understood English is required for the internship. Knowledge of French, which is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, is also necessary. Additionally, knowledge of another official UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a multilingual environment.
