Job Overview: The IRC in Los Angeles is looking for a dedicated candidate to join a pioneering program aimed at assisting asylum seekers in the Los Angeles County area. This initiative, known as the Case Management Pilot Program (CMPP), is funded by the US Department of Homeland security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (DHS) and is designed to provide essential case management and related services to non-detained non-US citizens undergoing immigration removal proceedings. The Caseworker will play a crucial role in delivering trauma-informed services and holistic case management support to clients, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance tailored to their individual needs. The position involves close collaboration with clients, colleagues, and various partners to create effective service plans that encompass a wide range of resources, including financial, medical, and social services. The Caseworker will also address various concerns faced by clients, including emotional and psychological issues, while assisting them in navigating the complex systems within Los Angeles County.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Caseworker's responsibilities include conducting intake assessments and reviewing program expectations with potential clients. They will develop individualized wellness service plans and SMART self-sufficiency plans for each enrolled client. Regular evaluations of client progress will be conducted to identify new needs and actions required. The Caseworker will perform screenings for mental health, trafficking, and legal issues, assisting clients in navigating healthcare and social service systems. They will provide referrals to additional services as needed and maintain a strong network of service providers. Community outreach is also a key responsibility, along with providing clients with orientations on various topics. The Caseworker will respond to client crises, assist with financial assistance requests, and maintain accurate documentation of services provided. They may attend court or health appointments with clients and participate in relevant training and meetings. Additionally, they may lead the activities of volunteers and interns as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field. A minimum of 1-2 years of case management experience with asylum seekers or similar populations is required, with a strong preference for those with experience working with refugee and immigrant populations. Familiarity with trauma-informed care and confidentiality is preferred, as is knowledge of local community social services. Strong relationship-building skills, effective communication in multicultural environments, and excellent problem-solving abilities are essential. Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation are also critical.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field is preferred for this position. This educational background equips candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support asylum seekers and navigate the complexities of social services.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant case management experience, particularly with asylum seekers or similar populations.
