CHAI works closely with governments and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems. Over the years, CHAI has expanded its focus beyond HIV to include infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes. The organization operates in 40 countries and is committed to maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, and sharing learnings globally. CHAI values diversity and inclusion, recognizing that a diverse workforce enhances its mission and effectiveness.

Job Overview:
The Public Health Analyst position at CHAI is designed for a highly motivated individual with public health experience and strong analytical skills. The role involves collaborating with CHAI’s global, regional, and country teams, as well as government counterparts, to assess, design, and scale-up disease surveillance systems. The analyst will conduct epidemiological analyses, monitor and evaluate ongoing efforts to reduce disease burden, and translate results for decision-makers. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team across East, West, and Central Africa, focusing on countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, an innovative approach to applying epidemiological expertise, and a commitment to producing results. The base location is flexible within the countries where CHAI operates in Africa, subject to approval from country leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Public Health Analyst will be responsible for implementing surveillance projects related to disease epidemiology, particularly for malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Key responsibilities include providing direct support to analytics workstreams, conducting high-quality epidemiological analyses, and evaluating the effectiveness of current interventions. The analyst will support the rollout and monitoring of surveillance processes and platforms, help cultivate a culture of data use within disease programs, and contribute to the formulation of disease program documents. Additional duties include designing and disseminating operational research projects, providing technical support and training to staff, synthesizing results for government partners, and representing CHAI at external technical meetings. The analyst will also develop and maintain strong working relationships with country teams and key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field, along with at least 2 years of working experience that demonstrates increasing levels of responsibility and leadership, particularly in program management. Strong project management skills are essential, including the ability to plan, execute, and monitor multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of malaria, NTDs, and other major global infectious disease problems is required, along with experience in monitoring and evaluation of surveillance systems and public health programs. Familiarity with data entry, management, and epidemiological analysis using statistical software is also necessary. Candidates should have exceptional written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently in remote settings.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding complex public health issues and the analytical skills needed to address them effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, with a focus on public health and program management. Candidates should demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility and leadership in their previous roles, particularly in areas related to disease surveillance and epidemiology.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly if relevant to the regions in which CHAI operates.
