Job Overview:
The Air Operations Assistant position is a vital role within the UNMISS framework, focusing on providing essential flight information services and ensuring the safe and efficient conduct of air operations in South Sudan. The assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Officer in Charge (OIC) of Air Operations in Torit, contributing to the planning and execution of flight activities. The assistant will also be responsible for preparing Air Tasking Orders (ATOs), processing daily flight schedules, and maintaining communication with aircrew and state aviation personnel. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Air Operations Assistant will undertake a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing Flight Information Service (FIS) to UNMISS aircraft; planning flight activities and submitting them for approval; preparing Air Tasking Orders (ATOs) from the daily flight schedule; processing daily flight schedules into the Aviation Information Management System (AIMS); monitoring all flights and providing timely resources for safe operations; coordinating with local Civil Aviation Officials; briefing aircrew on Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) and other relevant information; liaising with Field State administrators regarding aviation requirements; securing mine and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security clearances; managing aviation property; reporting weather observations and changes; maintaining a database of crew lists and risk assessments; checking fuel status; preparing daily situation reports; verifying Aircraft Use Reports (AUR); monitoring crew duty times; participating in capacity building for national staff; checking serviceability of aviation equipment; and submitting hazard reports. Additionally, the assistant will engage in volunteerism activities, contribute to UNV publications, and promote capacity development among local personnel.
