Job Overview: The Director, Vaccines will be responsible for leading the strategy, development, and execution of vaccine programs aimed at improving population health in Nigeria. This role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of vaccine initiatives, from strategic programmatic development to policy implementation and delivery. The Director will work closely with the Nigerian government, senior leadership, external stakeholders, and public health organizations to ensure that immunization programs are accessible and affordable for diverse populations. The position requires strong strategic leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate across various functions. The Director will also be tasked with monitoring emerging trends in the vaccine landscape and integrating relevant innovations into program strategies, ensuring that CHAI's efforts align with global health objectives and the needs of the Nigerian population.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director, Vaccines will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Strategic Leadership & Fundraising: Develop and execute vaccine program strategies that align with global health objectives; monitor emerging trends and integrate innovations; provide thought leadership to senior management; support country teams in developing high-impact strategies; lead fundraising efforts and engage donors.
Vaccine Program Management: Oversee the design and implementation of vaccine programs; manage cross-functional teams; collaborate with government agencies and external partners; monitor program progress and troubleshoot challenges; manage program budgets and ensure compliance with goals.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships: Build relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies and international organizations; represent CHAI at global health forums; collaborate with partners to advocate for vaccine delivery.
Operational Excellence: Monitor program performance against KPIs; ensure effective resource management; identify and mitigate risks; lead the development of a learning and research agenda.
Team Leadership & Development: Contribute to staff recruitment; lead and mentor a high-performing team; foster a culture of collaboration and accountability; provide feedback and coaching to team members.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Director, Vaccines position will possess the following qualifications:
Education: A Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Immunology, Biotechnology, or a related field is required. An MD, PhD, or equivalent experience is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in global health is required, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership position focused on vaccine program strategy, development, manufacturing, or distribution. The candidate should have a proven track record of managing large, complex vaccine programs and partnerships, as well as expertise in global health policy and immunization systems.
Skills: Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; excellent leadership and communication abilities; proficiency in project management; strong written and oral communication skills; ability to manage complex projects and prioritize tasks; high emotional intelligence.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Immunology, Biotechnology, or a related field. An MD, PhD, or equivalent experience is preferred, indicating a strong academic background relevant to the public health and vaccine sectors.
