Job Overview: The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager at CIMMYT will play a crucial role in providing expert leadership in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to ensure the safest operations of CIMMYT’s programs. This position is based at CIMMYT’s headquarters in Texcoco, near Mexico City, and is part of the Operations Chapter in the Human Resources department. The manager will oversee health, safety, and medical services, ensuring compliance with local regulations and the effective implementation of CIMMYT's CARE and SAFE programs. The role requires a proactive approach to monitoring wellness, mental and physical health, organizational health and safety, and promoting gender equality and social inclusion (GESI). The manager will also be responsible for conducting workplace inspections, guiding local teams, and developing OHS procedures and monitoring tools for all CIMMYT locations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: Overseeing organizational health, safety, and medical services; ensuring compliance with local regulations; updating and implementing CARE and SAFE programs; monitoring workplans and guiding local teams in conducting regular workplace inspections; conducting comprehensive assessments among CIMMYT personnel to identify OHS and wellness needs; analyzing results to identify areas for improvement; developing and implementing OHS procedures; assessing and monitoring health risks in regional offices; maintaining accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents, and compliance activities; developing environmental responsibility programs; contributing to Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives; supporting OHS Safety Committees; ensuring all personnel are trained in occupational health and safety regulations; proposing preventive actions to improve local OHS conditions; and promoting a culture of security across the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Environmental Studies, or Chemical Engineering. Additionally, candidates must have professional work experience in Health and Safety, as well as experience working with IPO/INGO organizations. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and locations.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Environmental Studies, or Chemical Engineering is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage environmental health and safety programs and initiatives.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have substantial professional work experience in Health and Safety, particularly within the context of international organizations such as IPOs or INGOs. This experience should include a demonstrated ability to lead EHS initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and implement safety protocols in compliance with local regulations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and candidates will be tested on their language proficiency, with a minimum required score of B2 on the CEFR scale. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication within diverse teams and regions.
Additional Notes: CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package that includes benefits beyond the provisions of Mexican Labor Law. This includes a year-end bonus equivalent to 40 days of salary, a vacation premium of 56%, life and medical insurance, supermarket coupons, a savings fund, and social benefits as per Mexican regulations (IMSS, SAR / Infonavit). The position is full-time and based in Texcoco, Mexico.
