Job Overview:
The Critical Minerals Research Analyst position is focused on enhancing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management within Indonesia's critical minerals sector. This role is crucial as Indonesia plays a significant role in the global supply chain for critical minerals, particularly nickel. The analyst will conduct studies that leverage demand-side approaches, such as premium markets and partnerships with buyer countries, to promote responsible practices in the sector. The position involves extensive data collection and analysis, contributing to comprehensive reports that inform stakeholders about ESG management practices. The analyst will also critically assess regulations and voluntary standards in the sector, providing insights and updates on project progress. The role requires a proactive approach to research and collaboration, with an emphasis on integrating equity into the workplace and organizational culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Critical Minerals Research Analyst will be responsible for a variety of tasks, primarily focused on research and project implementation. Key duties include:
  • Research (70%): - Gather, organize, and analyze data from diverse sources, including industry reports, policy documents, and stakeholder interviews. - Develop high-quality research outputs such as reports, policy briefs, case studies, and articles that advance ESG management in the critical minerals sector. - Critically review and assess existing regulations and ESG management practices. - Provide regular updates on project progress, identifying challenges and offering insights.
  • Project Implementation (30%): - Support the organization of events, workshops, and meetings to facilitate stakeholder engagement and disseminate findings effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a reputable institution in relevant fields such as international relations, economics, public policy, or law. A minimum of three years of experience in research, consulting, or corporate strategy roles is required. Candidates should have sector exposure to the mining and minerals industry, with knowledge of ESG and sustainability topics at various levels. The ability to support research projects with limited guidance, communicate effectively about data processes, and manage competing priorities is essential. Strong organizational skills and a proactive work ethic are also necessary.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a recognized institution in fields related to international relations, economics, public policy, or law. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the critical minerals sector and the associated ESG management practices.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in research, consulting, or corporate strategy roles. Candidates should have experience in the mining and minerals industry, with a strong understanding of ESG and sustainability topics at national, regional, and global levels. Familiarity with both mandatory and voluntary standards in the sector is also important.

Languages:
Business proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages. This proficiency is essential for effective collaboration and reporting within the organization and with external stakeholders.

  • The consultant will be compensated based on a daily rate, with a maximum of 18 working days per month. Travel insurance will be provided for any travel duties assigned by WRI Indonesia. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position. Final candidates may be required to take a writing test and provide two writing samples as part of the selection process.
