Job Overview:
The Senior Research Analyst position is focused on enhancing evidence-based marine policy through the utilization of ocean accounts, particularly concerning blue carbon ecosystems. The role involves conducting comprehensive research activities, including planning, executing, and reporting on various research projects. The analyst will coordinate research delivery, write reports, develop knowledge and communication products, and ensure effective partnerships with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and other relevant stakeholders. The position requires a strong commitment to integrating equity into the workplace and organizational culture, aligning with WRI's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals. The analyst will work closely with the Plastic Waste and Ocean Manager and the Research and Data Integrity Manager to ensure high-quality research outputs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Research Analyst will lead and implement research activities as outlined in the project workplan, ensuring alignment with WRI's research protocols and regulations. Key responsibilities include representing WRI in coordination with UNSW, conducting literature reviews on ocean accounting, and exploring integration with social accounting and gender equity and social inclusion (GESI). The analyst will coordinate and design collaborative research activities, utilizing various qualitative and quantitative methods such as interviews and focus group discussions. They will also oversee the development and drafting of progress reports and knowledge products, including a digital tool for ocean accounts. Additionally, the analyst will provide spatial analysis of coastal areas, supervise software development team members, and collaborate with the team to create communication materials that enhance WRI Indonesia's visibility. Engagement with partner institutions at national and sub-national levels is crucial to ensure strong buy-in for the tool and recommendations from the research project. The analyst will also contribute to proposal writing for new research activities and present research findings at selected forums.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a discipline related to marine science, fisheries, biology, bioeconomics, geography, or a relevant field, with a PhD preferred. A minimum of five years of professional experience as a researcher in marine and coastal ecosystems or related fields, particularly in blue carbon ecosystems, is required. Candidates should have strong familiarity with Indonesian marine conservation and marine spatial planning, including relevant policies and stakeholder management. Knowledge of environmental economics and ocean accounts is essential, along with the ability to design robust data collection and analysis approaches. Candidates should be highly experienced in conducting literature reviews, writing technical analyses, and communicating research findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Master's degree in a relevant field such as marine science, fisheries, biology, bioeconomics, or geography. A PhD is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and research capability.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of professional experience in research related to marine and coastal ecosystems, with a focus on blue carbon ecosystems being highly desirable. Experience in leading research projects and familiarity with Indonesian marine conservation practices are critical.

Languages:
Business proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory for both verbal and written communications. This proficiency is essential for effective collaboration and dissemination of research findings.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is from April 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with deliverables including quarterly progress reports and a final draft of knowledge and communication products. The position is part-time and limited term, with a daily rate-based consultant arrangement allowing for a maximum of 135 working days over the contract period. Travel insurance will be provided for any travel duties assigned by WRI Indonesia. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position. Final candidates may be required to take a writing test and provide two writing samples.
