Job Overview:
The Civil Affairs Officer position is a critical role within the Civil Affairs Division of UNMISS, specifically located in Yambio, Western Equatoria State (WES). The officer will engage with local authorities, community leaders, and various stakeholders to foster peace and stability in the region. This role requires a proactive approach to conflict management, including prevention, mitigation, and resolution strategies. The officer will be responsible for analyzing local political and social dynamics, identifying conflict trends, and supporting local peace processes. The position demands strong communication skills to provide briefings and reports on the situation in the area of responsibility (AOR) and to collaborate with other UN agencies and NGOs. The officer will also implement workshops and peace activities, ensuring that the mission's objectives align with local needs and conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Civil Affairs Officer will undertake a variety of tasks, including maintaining contact with local government and community leaders, providing analysis on conflict management, and identifying opportunities for resolution. The officer will support local peace processes, foster dialogues between conflicting parties, and provide timely reports on conflict management and protection of civilians. Responsibilities also include conducting VIP briefings, participating in assessment missions, establishing early warning systems, and implementing CAD workshops. Additionally, the officer will be expected to complete mandatory UNMISS trainings and undertake other assignments as directed by the Team Leader or Director of the Civil Affairs Division.
