Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Transport Division/Transport Connectivity and Logistics Section is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in economic affairs, particularly in the context of international railway transport. The internship is expected to last between 2 to 6 months, with a minimum commitment of 3 months. Interns will work remotely due to office renovations and will be supervised by a staff member in the division. The role involves conducting qualitative analyses, preparing reports, and synthesizing research findings related to sustainable development policies in the ESCAP region. Interns will also have the opportunity to engage with experts in the field and contribute to the preparation of country reports.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: writing qualitative briefs and reports on international railway transport issues; supporting the preparation of country reports by collecting information from authentic sources; identifying and collecting data from primary and secondary sources; coordinating with Transport Division experts to identify key issues; reviewing and analyzing collected data; preparing reports and briefs that include findings and conclusions; synthesizing research findings for potential replication in other countries; preparing presentations on the internship outcomes; and assisting with day-to-day administrative tasks as needed. Interns are expected to familiarize themselves with the administrative work typical of UN organizations and undertake other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No prior work experience is required, but relevant training, education, or skills that can benefit the UN during the internship are advantageous. Candidates who have completed more than four months of internship with other UN entities will not be considered unless they have enrolled in or completed a different degree program.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational background should ideally be in fields related to economics, international relations, public policy, or a similar discipline that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.
Experience: No prior work experience is required for this internship position. However, any relevant training or coursework that demonstrates the candidate's ability to contribute to the UN's mission will be beneficial. The internship is designed to provide practical experience and is open to students or recent graduates.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application.
