Job Overview: The Program Communications Officer plays a crucial role in the WRI China Office, collaborating closely with the China Food and Nature Resources Program and the China Sustainable Investment Program. This position is responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies that enhance the visibility and reputation of the programs and the organization as a whole. The officer will utilize a wide range of communication skills, including writing, editing, media relations, and stakeholder engagement, to ensure that the programs' messages are effectively conveyed to various audiences. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying communication opportunities and risks, as well as the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and make necessary adjustments. The officer will also support the China Core Communications team in various capacities, ensuring that all communication activities align with the overall goals of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop comprehensive communication strategies that align with the program’s objectives, including both short- and long-term plans.
Translate communication strategies into actionable items, ensuring collaboration across different programs and offices for efficient execution.
Identify communication opportunities and risks, proposing innovative solutions to enhance public impact.
Establish mechanisms to evaluate communication effectiveness and report on key indicators regularly.
Provide timely support to the China Core Communications team, including input on messaging, branding, and internal communications.
Create and edit content related to project topics, such as statements, blogs, reports, and press releases.
Plan and execute activities related to program topics, including agenda design and media engagement.
Lead communications efforts for large multinational projects, coordinating with other country offices and external stakeholders.
Respond to global requests from WRI and coordinate with leadership for support. 1
Build and maintain long-term relationships with media and stakeholders in relevant fields. 1
Develop crisis management plans and respond to public opinion crises in collaboration with relevant teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have at least 5-6 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within news media, NGOs, or public relations firms. A deep understanding of program-related topics such as food, agriculture, biodiversity, finance, trade, and supply chain is essential. Candidates should also possess a strong commitment to sustainable development and a good understanding of international organizations. Proficiency in email marketing and promotion on social media platforms is required, along with the ability to work across different cultural environments and time zones.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, with a Master’s degree preferred. The educational background should be relevant to communications, public relations, or a related field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5-6 years of relevant professional experience in communications, with a strong emphasis on media relations and stakeholder engagement. Experience working with international organizations and understanding their operations is highly desirable.
Languages: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin are mandatory. Candidates should have professional experience in both languages to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
