Job Overview:
The Movement Control Assistant plays a crucial role in the logistics and transportation operations of the UNMISS. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of cargo and passenger services, which includes monitoring shipments, managing passenger check-ins, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The position requires a high level of attention to detail, as the assistant must accurately prepare manifests, handle dangerous goods declarations, and ensure that all cargo and luggage are properly tagged and loaded onto the correct aircraft. The role also involves physical tasks such as lifting and carrying cargo, making it essential for candidates to be physically fit and capable of performing these duties. The assistant will work under the supervision of the Movement Control Officer and must be prepared to work shifts, including weekends and evenings, to meet operational demands.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Movement Control Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: monitoring and ensuring the timely delivery of cargo, communicating shipping details to relevant parties, ensuring correct tagging and labeling of passenger luggage and cargo, assisting in the arrangement of cargo in warehousing facilities, ensuring proper loading of luggage onto aircraft, checking in passengers traveling on UNMISS aircraft, preparing and manifesting passengers and cargo accurately, completing dangerous goods declarations, conducting physical tallies of luggage and cargo, retrieving and placing baggage on aircraft, assisting in the transfer of baggage to terminal areas, tracking and tracing missing cargo and baggage, and performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driving license and the ability to drive manual transmission vehicles. A certificate in the Movement of Dangerous Goods by any mode of transportation is desirable, and applicants should attach a copy of their valid Dangerous Goods certificate. Additionally, a diploma or certificate in logistics, travel, or a related field is also desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of logistics and cargo handling processes, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates with further qualifications in logistics, travel, or related fields will be given preference. It is essential for applicants to provide documentation of their educational background as part of the application process.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of work experience in logistics, cargo handling, or travel in a related field is required. However, this requirement is waived for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in driving larger vehicles, such as 25-seater buses, and operating material handling equipment (MHEs) like forklifts and belt loaders is considered desirable and will enhance a candidate's application.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, and familiarity with Arabic is desirable, as it may assist in communication with local populations and stakeholders.

This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that candidates must be residents of South Sudan or within commuting distance of Juba.
