Job Overview: The Communications Manager at WRI Indonesia will be responsible for shaping and executing the organization's communication strategy to ensure that its work reaches key audiences and advances its mission of creating a sustainable future. The role requires exceptional communication skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, managing the organization's website and social media channels, building media relationships, supporting advocacy campaigns, and managing communication crises. The Communications Manager will collaborate closely with programming teams to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and will actively participate in integrating equity into the workplace and organizational culture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop public relations and communication strategies to enhance WRI Indonesia's visibility and image, ensuring continued support for its programs.
Maintain effective relationships with national and local government entities, supporting and monitoring these relationships.
Coordinate the development of a resource center to establish a strong information database for staff and stakeholders.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government, donors, and public leaders, to improve the organization's image and open new opportunities.
Negotiate budgets with other units for the production of high-quality publications that align with WRI's standards.
Develop and support staff capacity in advocacy and institutional learning.
Conduct research to analyze potential funding agencies and identify fundraising opportunities.
Cultivate and manage relationships with existing donors to secure funding renewals.
Represent WRI Indonesia externally and develop outreach strategies for media engagement. 1
Manage Media and Communications staff, ensuring effective support and achievement of deliverables. 1
Collaborate with staff across programs and international offices to advance WRI Indonesia's communication interests. 1
Review communications materials to ensure they meet WRI's quality standards. 1
Serve as a member of the WRI Indonesia Management Team.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within program management.
International experience or prior work in a global organization is preferred.
Strong interest and experience in forestry, energy, or natural resources-related issues in Indonesia.
Proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials and knowledge of government structures and procedures.
Experience in providing advice to research and programmatic teams.
Project and people management experience is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields to qualify for this position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in communications, particularly in program management. International experience or prior work in a global organization is preferred, along with a strong interest in forestry, energy, or natural resources-related issues in Indonesia.
Languages: Business proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communication skills. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position with a fixed-term employment agreement lasting until 31 December 2025, preceded by a 3-month consultancy contract. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia. The salary will be commensurate with experience and skills, and a comprehensive benefits package will be provided. Final candidates may be required to take a writing test and submit two writing samples.
