Job Overview: The Security Information Analyst/Security Officer position is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of UN personnel and operations in Jerusalem. The role involves monitoring local security conditions, advising personnel on security issues, and contributing to the development and implementation of security plans. The officer will work under the supervision of the Chief Security Officer and will be responsible for coordinating security operations, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring effective communication with security stakeholders. This position requires a proactive approach to security management and the ability to respond to emergencies effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Officer will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to: assisting in the supervision of a Security Unit, drafting and updating security contingency plans, monitoring local security conditions, advising UN personnel on security issues, conducting evacuation exercises, maintaining a 24-hour Emergency Response System, contributing to security risk assessments, monitoring security operations, and maintaining communication with security focal points. The officer will also conduct routine physical security inspections, assist in training UN personnel on security matters, and participate in research on specific threat factors. Additionally, the officer will act as Operations Duty Officer and support the Crisis Management Team in response to security incidents.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate. They are required to have UNDSS Certification in Security Analysis Process and Practice (SAPP) and it is desirable to have UNDSS Certification in Security Certification Programme (SCP). Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective planning and organizing skills.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required for this position. Additional certifications in security analysis and management are highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's qualifications.
Experience: A minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in military, police, security management, or analysis is required. Candidates must have at least two years of experience in a security operations center or similar role within a military, police, or security organization. Experience in an international context, particularly in conflict or post-conflict environments, is essential. Prior experience in a Security Information and Operations Center (SIOC) or Security Information Coordination Unit (SICU) is desirable, along with substantial experience in conducting security briefings and presentations to senior officials.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Knowledge of French is also beneficial as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
