Job Overview: The Safety and Security Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of WHH operations in Ukraine, particularly in the western and southern regions. This position requires a proactive approach to managing security risks and facilitating safe access for humanitarian activities. The officer will report directly to the Area Manager and the Humanitarian Access, Safety and Security Manager, providing essential support in safety and security tasks. The role involves regular travel to various operational locations within Ukraine, necessitating a strong understanding of the local context and security landscape. The officer will be responsible for implementing security policies, conducting assessments, and maintaining communication with local authorities and partners to ensure the safety of WHH staff and operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Safety and Security Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the security management of WHH operations across Ukraine, particularly in the South and West; tracking staff movements and assisting in the planning and approval process; conducting security analysis and assessments of areas, routes, and premises; providing interpretation services during meetings with authorities and stakeholders; enhancing WHH's relationships with local partners and authorities for information exchange and movement permissions; assisting WHH partners in implementing their security management priorities; collecting and sharing timely information relevant to security assessments; alerting the advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Advisor of any new developments or concerns; preparing written reports as required; ensuring regular communication with WHH partners regarding operational security matters; supporting the procurement of safety and security goods and services; maintaining the safety and security of premises and equipment; providing updates on humanitarian access matters; planning and conducting training sessions for WHH staff; supporting emergency response and incident management; attending relevant coordination meetings; and performing any other tasks as assigned by the line or technical managers.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least 3 years of experience in security or operations management, with a minimum of one year focused specifically on security. Preferred qualifications include at least one year of experience in security roles within international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). A minimum of completed secondary education is required, with college or university education preferred. Experience in humanitarian or civil society organizations is essential, along with demonstrable experience in high-risk locations. Candidates should have skills in security analysis and safety management, basic mapping skills, and an understanding of GIS. Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is required, along with fluency in the main local languages. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to travel within the operational area, work effectively in a team, and possess good problem-solving skills. Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office, social media, and Google Maps is necessary, as well as a valid driving license (category B).
Educational Background: The position requires at least a completed secondary education, with a preference for candidates who have pursued college or university education. This educational background should ideally be complemented by training or coursework related to security management, humanitarian assistance, or a related field.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in security or operations management, with at least one year specifically focused on security. Experience working in high-risk environments is crucial, and candidates with prior experience in international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) will be preferred. Languages: Fluency in English at an intermediate to fluent level is mandatory, both in verbal and written communication.
