Job Overview:
This internship is located within the Disaster Risk Reduction Section (DRS) of the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment for a period ranging from two to six months, depending on the needs of the division or office. Interns are expected to work five days a week, totaling 35 hours, under the supervision of the Chief of the Disaster Risk Reduction Section and relevant officers within DRS. The internship provides an opportunity for interns to gain practical experience in the field of disaster risk reduction and contribute to meaningful projects. Interns will engage in various tasks that align with their academic background and the specific needs of the division, with the possibility of remote work considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: contributing to quantitative and qualitative analyses on the socio-economic impacts of disasters; assisting in the organization of international conferences and meetings; and carrying out other ad hoc tasks as required by the Section and the Division. The specific responsibilities will depend on the intern's background, assigned office, and the duration of the internship. Interns are expected to demonstrate initiative and adaptability in their roles, as well as a willingness to learn and engage with complex issues related to disaster risk reduction.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, making this an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain valuable experience in an international organization.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong academic background, with a focus on fields related to disaster risk reduction, social sciences, economics, or other relevant disciplines. Enrollment in a graduate program or completion of a bachelor's degree is essential for eligibility.
