Job Overview:
The Project Director will lead a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) project funded through the Maverick Collective, primarily based in North Sumatra, Indonesia. This role involves overseeing the successful design and implementation of the project, ensuring compliance with financial and administrative standards, and supervising project staff. The Project Director will be responsible for maintaining high standards of excellence in project delivery, achieving set goals and targets within budget constraints. This position requires strategic management of risks, monitoring finances, and ensuring timely completion of project phases. The Project Director will also engage with national stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Health, and serve as the primary contact for project donors, ensuring alignment with PSI's global strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Director include:
  • Leading program management and oversight, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and engaging with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
  • Managing project staff and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Providing thought leadership and technical guidance on MCH initiatives.
  • Representing PSI externally to stakeholders and partners.
  • Coordinating internally across teams to ensure project alignment and effectiveness.
  • Liaising with donors to maintain strong relationships and ensure project funding.
  • Upholding PSI's core values of measurement, pragmatism, honesty, trust, collaboration, and commitment.
  • Traveling internationally 10-25% of the time as required for project needs.
  • Adapting to additional tasks as assigned by PSI management, reflecting the dynamic nature of the role.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in fields such as MSc, MPH, MBA, MHA, or MPA. Additionally, at least 10 years of relevant work experience in public health, particularly in Maternal and Child Health, is required. A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience and 7 years of program management experience in global health projects within low or middle-income countries (LMICs) is preferred. Candidates should also have at least 5 years of experience in the relevant technical field of the project and 3 years of experience living and working in LMICs. Proven success in managing complex operations under donor awards and the ability to handle programmatic and financial reporting requirements are essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s Degree or an equivalent qualification in public health, health administration, or a related field. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of health systems and project management in the context of maternal and child health.

Experience:
The position requires extensive experience, specifically at least 10 years in public health, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in Maternal and Child Health. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years in supervisory roles and 7 years in program management for global health projects, particularly in low or middle-income countries. Experience in managing government and donor relations, as well as the ability to navigate complex operational environments, is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, given the international nature of the role and the need for effective communication with stakeholders. Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia is highly desirable, as it will facilitate better engagement with local partners and government officials.
