Job Overview: The Project Director will lead the implementation of a World Bank funded project aimed at enhancing health service performance in Kenya. This role encompasses the entire project lifecycle, from start-up to close-out, ensuring that the project meets its goals of improving quality care and health outcomes for mothers and newborns. The Project Director will be responsible for overseeing project teams, ensuring compliance with financial and administrative requirements, and providing technical leadership. The position requires strategic management of risks, monitoring of finances, and maintaining high standards of excellence in project delivery. The Project Director will also liaise with national stakeholders, including Ministry of Health officials, and serve as the primary contact for the project donor, ensuring alignment with PSI's global strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Director's duties include program leadership and management, which involves financial oversight and compliance, as well as managing a consortium of partners if applicable. The role also includes people management, providing thought leadership and technical guidance on the project, and representing PSI externally. The Project Director will coordinate internally, engage in fundraising activities, and maintain donor relations. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in fields such as MSc, MPH, MBA, MHA, MPA, or a related area. A Medical Doctorate is preferred. The position requires at least 10 years of relevant work experience in public health or a related field, with an equivalent combination of education and experience being acceptable. Candidates should have demonstrated experience and a deep understanding of the Kenya Public Health System at both national and county levels, as well as experience managing World Bank consultancies and contracts. Supervisory experience of at least 5 years and program management experience for global health projects in low or middle-income countries (LMICs) for at least 7 years is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have experience in the relevant technical field of the project for at least 5 years and at least 3 years of living and working in LMICs.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s Degree or equivalent in public health, management, or a related field. A Medical Doctorate is preferred, indicating a strong foundation in health-related disciplines that will support the role's responsibilities.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in public health or a similar field. Candidates should have significant experience managing complex operations under donor awards and procedures, particularly in challenging developing country environments. Experience in managing government and donor relations is also essential, along with a proven track record in program management for global health projects in low or middle-income countries.
