Job Overview:
The Security Officer position is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel and their dependents in the mission area. The incumbent will work under the guidance of senior security officials and will be responsible for monitoring the security situation, reporting incidents, and facilitating communication between various security entities. This role requires a proactive approach to security management, including the dissemination of security advisories and the maintenance of communication systems. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Officer will perform a wide range of duties including monitoring the mission area for security incidents, relaying safety messages, organizing security-related information, and escalating incidents as necessary. The officer will maintain contact with emergency services and local authorities, produce daily occurrence reports, and facilitate headcounts of UN personnel during emergencies. Additionally, the officer will manage communication systems, conduct radio checks, and ensure compliance with security protocols. The role also involves operating and maintaining integrated security systems at UNMIK Headquarters, managing access control, and providing crisis management support. The officer will be expected to perform other duties as assigned by the SOC Supervisor or other senior security personnel.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of internal security policies and procedures, particularly those relevant to the mission area. They should demonstrate operational and organizational abilities, as well as the capacity to gather information from various sources. A high sense of responsibility, emotional stability, and the ability to remain calm in emergencies are essential. The officer must also be willing to work shifts and have a good knowledge of the organizational structure and key personnel within the UN.

Educational Background:
A completion of secondary or high school education with a confirmed diploma is required for this position. Additionally, possession of a valid national driving license is desirable, which indicates the need for mobility and the ability to respond to incidents effectively.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of security experience in international organizations or the civilian sector is required. However, this requirement is reduced to one year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree, highlighting the value placed on formal education in the field of security.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial and may enhance a candidate's application, given the multilingual environment of the UN.

This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work in Kosovo.
