Job Overview:
The internship position in the CELADE-Population Division of ECLAC in Santiago, Chile, is designed for students or recent graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in population studies and demographic analysis. The internship is expected to last for 3 months, with the possibility of extension up to 6 months based on the needs of the office. Interns will work under the supervision of the Population Affairs Officer and will be involved in various tasks related to population issues, including data collection, analysis, and support for meetings and workshops. This role provides an excellent opportunity for interns to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting and contribute to important population research and policy development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including: 1) Searching, collecting, and organizing information and reference materials on population issues from various sources. 2) Reviewing population and demographic papers, making notes, and creating detailed abstracts. 3) Generating and analyzing demographic and population development indicators. 4) Processing census and survey microdata to generate sociodemographic indicators and conduct preliminary analyses. The default software for census microdata processing is Redatam, although other software may be permitted in certain cases. 5) Supporting the organization and servicing of meetings, workshops, and inter-governmental conferences related to the Division's projects. 6) Carrying out additional tasks as required by the Division.

Required Qualifications:
The basic education requirement for this internship is a high school diploma. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent, or they must have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, candidates should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and REDATAM. The ability to draft working documents and papers is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates must be able to cover their own travel costs, including visa, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses during the internship.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be in their final year of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent, or have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant educational program must be provided with the application.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme. However, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge and skills related to population studies and demographic analysis.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
