Job Overview:
The UN News Stringer (Spanish) position is designed to produce and submit multimedia content that enhances the work of UN News Language Units. The role involves creating a maximum of thirteen approved packages of multimedia content from the field, specifically in Spanish, to provide local voices and field-based storytelling on a wide range of UN activities. The content will particularly focus on showcasing actions related to the SDGs, human rights, and climate issues. The work location is primarily in South America, and the expected duration of the contract is a maximum of six months. The individual will be expected to liaise with the relevant Unit Chief to discuss and plan the production of quality multimedia content that aligns with UN priorities and campaigns, ensuring that the narratives resonate with the target audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Individual Contractor shall: • Liaise with the relevant Unit Chief to discuss and plan producing quality multimedia (text, audio, and video) content on various issues to provide field-based narratives in relation to UN priorities, campaigns, and news developments in the target audience region. • Pitch story ideas and agree with the commissioning office on timelines and content to be produced, incorporating a range of storytelling approaches appropriate for both news and social media platforms. • Produce content on UN conferences or campaigns as commissioned by UN News. • Research content from verifiable sources, write stories and scripts, edit, and create multimedia stories for UN News language platforms, ensuring consistency with global priorities and featuring local angles. • Coordinate technical arrangements and organize interviews in the countries of assignment as required. • Follow UN News guidelines, ensuring basic editorial clarity and sound political judgment, due diligence regarding permissions and copyright, including written approvals for photos and video content, especially where minors are concerned. • Possess well-rounded experience in broadcast/digital journalism and multimedia production in the assigned languages. Skills in video production will be highly desirable. Ability to produce material in English or other UN News languages will also be desirable. • Provide references and work samples as requested.

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field is preferred. Experience in broadcast/digital journalism in the assigned language(s) is required. Experience in the full range of production of multimedia features is required. Experience in video production, filming, and editing video material is desirable. Experience in recording and editing audio material is desirable. Experience in digital content publishing and incorporation of photos and graphics is desirable.

Educational Background:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum qualification. However, a first-level university degree in communication, journalism, video production, or a related field is preferred, indicating a higher level of education and specialization in relevant areas.

Experience:
The candidate must have experience in broadcast/digital journalism in the assigned language(s). This includes a comprehensive understanding of multimedia production processes and the ability to create engaging content that aligns with UN priorities. Experience in producing a full range of multimedia features is essential, along with specific skills in video production, filming, and editing. Additionally, experience in recording and editing audio material, as well as digital content publishing, is desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is required for this position, as the primary content will be produced in this language. Knowledge of English and other UN official languages is desirable, as the UN operates in multiple languages and the ability to produce material in these languages can enhance the effectiveness of the content created.

Additional Notes:
This function is located in the UN News Section of the News and Content Branch, within the News and Media Division (NMD) in the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The agreement for this position is for a maximum period of six months, with the number of packages to be produced determined in discussion with the commissioning office and dependent on funds availability. All packages must be approved in advance.
