Job Overview: The Finance Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring that Action Against Hunger USA's systems and procedures for internal controls are adhered to when handling or processing financial transactions. This position involves working closely with the Finance Manager to support various accounting and financial matters. The Finance Officer is responsible for ensuring that all recorded financial transactions accurately reflect the true and fair status of incurred expenditures, in compliance with donor, headquarters, and mission guidelines. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including reviewing payments and supporting documents, processing payments, managing cash and bank disbursement documentation, preparing treasury forecasts, reviewing commitments, conducting reconciliations, facilitating monthly accountancy closures, supporting budget monitoring, financial reporting, and providing staff training and capacity building.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Officer's duties include ensuring timely and accurate supplier payments and reconciliations, overseeing daily cash and mobile wallet balances, generating monthly cash projection reports, maintaining accurate financial transaction records, managing the invoice processing workflow, facilitating monthly accountancy closures, participating in budget follow-up reviews, supervising financial activities, ensuring accuracy in document review, conducting balance reconciliations for accounts payable and receivable, ensuring tax compliance, providing audit support, and maintaining the Sylogist database for the mission. The officer will also act as a liaison between the HR Coordinator and staff, ensuring effective communication of HR information.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Organization Development, or a relevant field. A professional qualification in accounting or finance is considered an added advantage. Additionally, candidates should have a professional certification in business management and at least three years of experience in a similar role. Experience in an international NGO is also beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly spreadsheets and accounting software, and possess excellent people management, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Organization Development, or a related field. A professional qualification in accounting or finance would be advantageous, as would a professional certification in business management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of experience in a similar role, with international NGO experience being a significant advantage. Candidates should have a proven track record of effectively managing financial operations and demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
