Job Overview: The Humanitarian Access and Security Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of humanitarian operations in Nigeria. This position involves assessing security risks, developing and implementing security protocols, and coordinating with local authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate safe access to affected populations. The coordinator will be responsible for conducting security assessments, providing training to staff on security awareness, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct regular security assessments to identify risks and vulnerabilities in operational areas.
Develop and implement comprehensive security plans and protocols for field operations.
Provide training and support to staff on security awareness and emergency response procedures.
Liaise with local authorities, UN agencies, and other NGOs to coordinate security measures and ensure safe access to affected populations.
Monitor the security situation and provide timely updates to management and field teams.
Prepare and maintain security documentation, including incident reports and security briefings.
Advocate for the safety and security of humanitarian workers and affected communities in discussions with stakeholders.
Collaborate with program teams to integrate security considerations into project planning and implementation.
Participate in inter-agency security coordination meetings and contribute to collective security efforts. 1
Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and procedures, and recommend improvements as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in security management, preferably in humanitarian or conflict settings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement security protocols and training programs.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Familiarity with the humanitarian principles and the operational context in Nigeria is an advantage.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in security management, international relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree or relevant professional certifications in security management or risk assessment is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in security management or related roles, with at least 2 years in a humanitarian context. Experience working in Nigeria or similar environments is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Nigeria is an advantage and can enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
