Job Overview: The IC-DRR Consultant position is focused on providing expert consultancy services in the area of disaster risk reduction (DRR). The consultant will be responsible for developing strategies and frameworks that enhance the resilience of communities and nations to disasters. This role requires a deep understanding of disaster risk management principles, as well as the ability to analyze and assess risks associated with natural hazards. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to implement DRR initiatives effectively. The position also involves capacity building, knowledge sharing, and ensuring that DRR measures are integrated into national and local development plans. The consultant will be expected to contribute to the formulation of policies and guidelines that promote sustainable development while minimizing disaster risks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of disaster risks and vulnerabilities in targeted areas.
Develop and implement disaster risk reduction strategies and action plans in collaboration with local stakeholders.
Provide technical assistance and guidance to government agencies and partners on DRR best practices.
Facilitate training sessions and workshops to enhance the capacity of local communities in disaster preparedness and response.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of DRR initiatives and recommend improvements.
Prepare reports and documentation on DRR activities, outcomes, and lessons learned.
Engage in advocacy efforts to promote the importance of disaster risk reduction at local, national, and international levels.
Collaborate with other UN agencies and organizations to align DRR efforts with broader development goals.
Required Qualifications:
Proven expertise in disaster risk reduction and management, with a strong understanding of related policies and frameworks.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in project management and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Familiarity with international development processes and the UN system is an advantage.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in disaster management, environmental science, social sciences, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in disaster risk reduction or related areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in disaster risk reduction, emergency management, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in the context of disaster risk management is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully implementing DRR projects and initiatives is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the areas of assignment is an advantage. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region, will be considered a plus.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 12 months. This is a full-time consultancy role, and the consultant will be expected to work closely with UNDP and other stakeholders throughout the assignment. The position may involve travel to various locations within India, depending on project requirements.
