Job Overview: The position involves evaluating ecosystem services provided or regulated, as well as estimating the avoided losses due to disaster risk reduction stemming from investments made in Climate Change Adaptation Plans financed by Rural Adelante. The consultant will be responsible for conducting assessments that will inform future investments and strategies in the region. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental economics and disaster risk management, as well as the ability to analyze complex data and present findings in a clear and actionable manner. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders and UNDP teams to ensure that the evaluations are aligned with national priorities and contribute to sustainable development goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive evaluations of ecosystem services in the context of climate change adaptation.
Estimate the economic value of avoided losses due to disaster risk reduction initiatives.
Collaborate with local communities and stakeholders to gather data and insights on ecosystem services.
Analyze data using appropriate methodologies and tools to derive meaningful conclusions.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
Engage with UNDP teams to ensure alignment of evaluations with broader development strategies.
Provide technical support and guidance to stakeholders on best practices for ecosystem management and disaster risk reduction.
Participate in workshops and meetings to present findings and gather feedback from stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in environmental economics, ecosystem services evaluation, or related fields.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in Spanish and English.
Familiarity with disaster risk reduction frameworks and climate change adaptation strategies.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in statistical software and data analysis tools is preferred.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Economics, or a related field is required. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline will be considered an asset. Additional certifications in disaster risk management or climate change adaptation will be advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in ecosystem services evaluation, disaster risk management, or related areas is required. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is preferred. Proven track record of conducting evaluations and assessments in similar contexts is essential.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and proficiency in English is highly desirable. Knowledge of other languages spoken in the region will be considered an asset.
