Job Overview:
This internship is a full-time, in-person position located in New York, specifically within the Office of the Assistant-General for Human Resources (OASG OHR) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The intern will be expected to support various communication and administrative functions, working closely with the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary-General or the Human Resources Officer. The role involves liaising with different offices, assisting in the review and publication of communication materials, and contributing to web content updates. The intern will also engage in record-keeping improvement projects and assist in drafting notes, speeches, and reports. This position is designed to provide valuable experience in human resources and organizational communication within a global context.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including:
  • Liaising with different offices regarding individual communications requests.
  • Assisting with the review and publication of OHR communication materials, including articles and broadcasts.
  • Proofreading and editing content for print, web, and multimedia.
  • Updating web content and making proposals for graphic and design improvements.
  • Evaluating existing records management tools and participating in improvement projects.
  • Drafting notes, speeches, and preparing reports and background documents.
  • Providing statistics and running reports related to the office's work.
  • Assisting in preparing presentation materials, including graphs, charts, and PowerPoint slides.
  • Reviewing staff recommended for placement in view of mission downsizing. 1
  • Supporting the implementation of HR strategies as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A background in human resources, public administration, or related fields is desirable. While professional work experience is not required, applicants must have a field of study closely related to the internship. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, and MS Teams, is essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application. An educational background or exposure to human resources or public administration is preferred, as it aligns with the internship's focus.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that relates to human resources or organizational communication. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of French is desirable, and proficiency in another official United Nations language (Arabic, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage. Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. For non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents, obtaining a G-4 visa is mandatory for full-time internships. Interns on non-immigrant student visas (F-1 or J-1) may only intern part-time.
