Job Overview:
The position involves serving as a consultant for a feasibility study aimed at integrating biocultural aspects into the management of the Lago de Texcoco Natural Resource Protection Area. The consultant will be responsible for conducting an environmental, cultural, and biological diagnosis, mapping strategic stakeholders, and developing a critical path for project implementation. The role requires a hybrid work arrangement, with the consultant expected to participate in both in-person and virtual meetings as necessary to fulfill the consultancy objectives. The estimated duration of the consultancy is six months, starting in March 2025 and concluding in August 202
  • The consultant will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and will be required to travel within Mexico, although travel expenses will be covered by UNDP according to their regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the biocultural integration of the Lago de Texcoco Natural Resource Protection Area.
  • Perform an environmental, cultural, and biological diagnosis of the area.
  • Map out strategic stakeholders involved in the project.
  • Develop a critical path for the implementation of the project.
  • Collaborate with the Project Coordinator and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the consultancy objectives.
  • Participate in meetings, both virtual and in-person, as required.
  • Prepare and submit reports and deliverables according to the established schedule.
  • Ensure compliance with UNDP's guidelines and regulations throughout the consultancy.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in conducting feasibility studies, particularly in environmental and cultural contexts.
  • Strong understanding of biocultural integration and natural resource management.
  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in Spanish and English.
  • Familiarity with UNDP's operational guidelines and procedures is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A degree in environmental science, cultural studies, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline is preferred, as it demonstrates advanced knowledge and expertise in the subject matter.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in conducting feasibility studies, project management, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of environmental and cultural projects, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the primary work will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in English is also required to facilitate communication with international stakeholders and to understand UNDP documentation and guidelines. Knowledge of indigenous languages or other local dialects would be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is part-time and will last for approximately six months. The consultant will be compensated based on the delivery and acceptance of products according to an established schedule. Travel within Mexico is required, but expenses will be covered by UNDP. The consultant must be available for both in-person and virtual meetings to ensure effective communication and project management.
