Job Overview: The Shelter Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of shelter projects in Gaza, ensuring that all activities meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and accountability. This role involves managing a team of shelter project staff, contributing to the development of shelter strategies, and ensuring that projects are aligned with NRC's mission and donor requirements. The Shelter Coordinator will also be expected to engage with local authorities and stakeholders, promote the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs), and ensure that project participants receive the necessary support. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work in a challenging humanitarian context.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Shelter Coordinator will manage and implement a portfolio of shelter projects, ensuring adherence to NRC policies and guidelines. Responsibilities include line management of shelter project staff, contributing to project proposals, managing project budgets, and providing regular progress reports to the Project Manager. The Coordinator will oversee programmatic activities to ensure compliance with quality standards, coordinate with other stakeholders to avoid duplication of efforts, and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of project activities. Additionally, the role involves capacity building for project staff, ensuring that lessons learned are documented, and promoting integrated programming with other NRC core competencies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have experience working in shelter project implementation within a humanitarian context, with a minimum of three years in a mid-level senior project implementation role. Knowledge of leadership skills and fluency in English (both written and verbal) are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in complex and volatile contexts, with a strong focus on documentation and beneficiary data security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. Experience working with vulnerable groups and a conflict-sensitive approach are highly valued.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background in humanitarian studies, social sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of shelter programming and project management principles.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of experience in a senior project implementation role within a humanitarian context, specifically in shelter programming in Gaza. Previous experience in emergencies and familiarity with cash-based interventions as a shelter modality are considered assets.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic (both written and verbal) is mandatory, while proficiency in English is also required. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is 12 months, with a working schedule of 40 hours per week from Sunday to Thursday. The position is based in Gaza and is open only to residents of the Gaza Strip. The salary and benefits will be in accordance with NRC’s salary scale and terms.
